the thing is I am buying my first TFT 17" monitor, but I need to know something about them, basically what does it mean by response times ?
the thing is it says it is 8MS (milliseconds) which I can't quite understand what this means .
ok to get it right , the response time of a monitor is the time it takes a pixel to go from pure black to pure white then back to pure black again (this is also dependant on the contrast ratio as its impossible for any lcd to display pure black or pure white , basically the higher the contrast ratio the whiter the whites and the blacker the blacks) Thats why you get a blurring effect with fast images on a low response time monitor
8ms is ok but if its for gaming id look at 5 and below
beware , most manufacturers now only advertise G to G response times (grey to grey) eg they may say its response time is 5ms Grey to grey , its actual response time is probably closer to 8 ms , look out for this when buying , if its grey to grey they usually say 5ms G2G or something confusing just like that.
also look at something thats 24 bit or 16.7 million colours , alot of the cheaper ones are 16.3 million and far inferior colour wise
Basically the response rate measures how fast the pixels respond to change. Monitors which have slower response rates will show "ghosting" (blurriness) when images on the screen are moving quickly. This can be a problem if playing games or watching movies. Anything below 12ms will be fine for movies and games: 8ms will of course be better. As far as I know Hanns G make decent budget monitors on a par with AG Neovo.
The other thing to check is if the monitor has the right connector for your pc; either D-SUB (VGA)

or DVI
http://www.atmarkit.co.jp/fsys/cableconn...
some monitors have both or include adapters
If you won't watch movies on it or play fast-moving games it should be all right. 8 ms is the time it takes the monitor to update the image it displays.
every 8milliseconds it "refreshes"
8ms is a bit high, its okay.. just not great.
if you have a slow refresh rate when things move quickly the picture can look a bit blurred so a faster one would look more sharper. my ones slower than that it's old, it's ok but not so good when playing driving games, after a while me eyes go a bit funny so i stop for a bit which i serpose is not a bad thing really.
it means the time take to respond to
u mean
the line things coming from CPU to monitor in 8 MS
i guess it means this
It's the refresh rate of the monitor, If it's got a slow refresh rate then the picture will appear a bit blurred. 8ms is okish
Allergies.. no relief?!?
