in my area power outages happen all the time so i was wondering whether these power cuts effect the computer/monitor. and no i got nothing else, they are directly plugged to an outlet. but usually after a power cut I pull out the main plug connecting these devices to the wal outlet so as to protect it from power surges. is what im doing right?
I have similar situations where I live, when you lose power the computer normally ends up turned off, the monitor unfortunately is different, it doesn't turn off. Yes unplugging it before the power comes back on is a good and safe idea. Lightning strikes is where surge protectors come to the rescue. They also provide enough power to allow you to shut down your computer when the power goes off, depending on what kind they are.
You need to at the minimum get a surge protected powerstrip so your computer and monitor wont get fried. Also a UPS, universal power supply, that charges up on a battery and then if the power goes out it gives you time to correctly shutdown your computer.
yes ofcourse it is. Get one UPS immediately
yes, cuts and surges do dammage your system because all the power in them is ether gone complety and way to fast or they get over loaded
i would get a plug board from a eletronic shop that has surge and cut protection and some have surge protection for your phone line to.
hope this helps^_^
Pulling the plug may help when the power kicks back on, but the initial power outage shutting off the computer can be very bad for the hard drive. Even with surge protectors, improper shutting down of the hard drives can greatly increase the chance of failures and most definitely corrupt files if they're being used or written to at the time of the power outage. In an area where the power goes out often, I'd definitely recommend (along w/ the other replies) looking into a UPS, even if it's a cheap one. You don't need the battery life to keep your computer running for long periods of time, just long enough to properly shut down on its own.
