i currently have a 17" monitor, and im getting a new one pretty soon. How big of a difference would a 20" screen make? 24"?
17" to 20" is a very noticeable difference. 24" is going to be massive compared to your 17".
Purr
Monitor screen size is measured diagonally, so you cam easily put a tape measure (lightly) against the bottom left corner of the viewable area of your monitor and extend it towards the upper right corner out to 20". 17" to 20" will be noticable, 24" will be very noticable; I'd personally probably find that too much, but everyone's tastes and layout are different.
Your 17" monitor's resolution is 1280x1024 = 1,310,720 pixels.
A typical 20" widescreen LCD resolution is 1680x1050 = 1,764,000 pixels.
A typical 24" widescreen LCD resolution is 1920x1200 = 2,304,000 pixels.
So a 20" will give you an increase in resolution of about 25%, whereas the 24" will give you a 40% increase.
The 24" will give you a much more dramatic difference in GUI real estate. I'd go for that one, and make sure it has HDCP on-board if you would like to play back Blu-Ray DVDs at full 1080p high-definition (which is 1920x1080).
Allergies.. no relief?!?
