The USA has never had an official language.
English is of course the de facto majority language, but that is different from being the official language.
Many states have declared that English is the official state language, however. The federal government has not done the same.

That's correct. English is not our official language and never has been, though it's certainly the most spoken. It's definitely a topic worth debating (and many groups have drawn attention to it, especially in recent years), but from a strictly legal point of view, we have no official language.
